City Winery Philadelphia launches intimate tasting experience

You don’t have to travel around the country to taste some of the best wines out there — you just need to head to City Winery Philadelphia.

The vast venue located inside the city’s Fashion District is launching a program where wine lovers can explore locally-made varietals from world class vineyards in the heart of the city with the opening of the Tasting Room at City Winery Philadelphia.

Opening in February, this new venture marks a first for the city’s first urban winery, which opened in 2019. On top of offering live music and wine-infused culinary experiences, City Winery will now offer approachable, interactive tastings along with growlers to-go and retail wine.

“The Tasting Room at City Winery gives Philadelphia a space to expand your palate with our winemaker through approachable, interactive tastings for all levels,” said City Winery Founder and CEO Michael Dorf in a statement.

Led by City Winery’s winemaker Isaac Clark, the space allows guests the opportunity to enjoy a true tasting room while sipping, snacking and discussing the art of winemaking with skilled experts — just steps away from where the wine is made, according to a news release.

“We’re so excited to open the Tasting Room and showcase our wines in a personal setting like this,” added Clark. “The opportunity to share the journey our wines have made from vineyard to glass and some quick tips on how to best understand these wines is something I truly love discussing. Regardless of wine knowledge, there’s something for everyone at the Tasting Room and we can’t wait to see you.”

The environment aims to be intimate with the intention of connecting patrons with City Winery’s experts in addition to offering selections on tap wines (available for purchase to-go with refillable growlers) along with pairing bites. Bites include choices ranging from artisanal cheeses, burrata, hummus, marinated olives and flatbreads (using dough made with lees from City Winery wines) that can be enjoyed in the restaurant or music venue after your wine tasting.
