As temperatures drop, and with a possible winter storm this weekend, Philadelphia’s Office of Homeless Services is implementing a Code Blue from 3 p.m. Thursday until further notice.

During a Code Blue, the city provides 24-hour outreach in an attempt to get people living on the street inside and opens up additional shelter beds. Homeless individuals are also permitted to stay in emergency housing throughout the day.

Residents worried about an unhoused person can call 215-232-1984 to access Philadelphia’s homeless outreach hotline.

A Code Blue goes into effect when temperatures are at or below 20 degrees due to wind chill or when it’s 32 degrees and lower with precipitation.

The National Weather Service, in a briefing Thursday morning, predicted a mix of snow, sleet and rain Saturday evening into Sunday for Philadelphia, with snowfall totals projected to be less than an inch.
