A Code Blue goes into effect when the National Weather Service predicts wind chills of 20 degrees or lower, or if there is precipitation and it is below 32 degrees.
As temperatures drop, and with a possible winter storm this weekend, Philadelphia’s Office of Homeless Services is implementing a Code Blue from 3 p.m. Thursday until further notice.
During a Code Blue, the city provides 24-hour outreach in an attempt to get people living on the street inside and opens up additional shelter beds. Homeless individuals are also permitted to stay in emergency housing throughout the day.
Residents worried about an unhoused person can call 215-232-1984 to access Philadelphia’s homeless outreach hotline.
