Cole, deGrom remain clear favorites to win NL, AL Cy Young Awards

New York isn’t just the city that doesn’t sleep, it’s the city of marquee arms, as well.

Both Gerrit Cole of the Yankees and Jacob deGrom of the Mets are favored by sportsbooks to win the American League and National League Cy Young Awards in 2021.

Cole leads the league with four wins this season, striking out 62 in 37.2 innings of work to go with his 1.43 ERA over six starts.

Across town, deGrom continues to be the unquestionable ace of Major League Baseball, leading the show with a 0.51 ERA (two earned runs in 35 innings pitched) while tying Nolan Ryan’s record with 59 strikeouts over his first five starts. His ERA+ of 764 and average of 4.1 hits allowed per nine innings also leads MLB.

He was scratched from his last start on Tuesday due to right-side discomfort, but an MRI disclosed that it is not a serious issue.

Down the list of NL Cy Young hopefuls is Phillies ace Aaron Nola, currently with the sixth-best odds as he’s battled some inconsistencies this season. In seven starts, he’s sporting a 2.89 ERA with 49 strikeouts and a 0.985 WHIP.
