Andre Iguodala isn’t a good jump shooter. He has proven this over and over again during his six-plus years as a Sixer. But a good point forward? Now Doug Collins might be on to something.
Collins recently made it clear that Iguodala was going to take on more of a ball-handling, distributing, offense-initiating sort of role. Over the last four games, Iguodala is averaging 10 assists and 1.7 turnovers per game, while attempting just 11 shots. It’s a formula suited to Iguodala’s skill set.
“As long as we’re winning, that’s the biggest thing to me,” Iguodala said. “Continue to try to keep the turnovers down and the assists high.”
The Sixers have been winning. Despite Wednesday’s loss to the Magic, the Sixers have won seven of their last 10 games, including a 34-point blowout win over the fourth-seeded Hawks. If the playoffs started today, they would be the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference.
“It’s exciting. We don’t look at the standings. We know we just have to win the games we need to, and we’ll be there,” Elton Brand said.
Sixers in tough spot with Iggs
Iguodala’s strong play of late puts the Sixers in quite a conundrum.
His trade value may never get higher, but selling him would strongly jeopardize the progress the team has made. The NBA’s trade deadline is Feb. 24.
