A Philadelphia police officer has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside his patrol car on Thursday morning.
A woman claimed the officer assaulted her after he picked her up in West Philadelphia. The victim is said to be in her 30s. Police officials confirmed the investigation, but would not reveal the officer’s district or provide further details about the allegation. Initial reports indicated the alleged victim was a juvenile, but a police spokesman said the woman was older.
Internal Affairs and Special Victims Unit is handling the investigation.
According to reports, the woman was picked up near 52nd and Market street and reported the assault at the 18th District.
Last year, former police officer Joseph Harvey was charged with exposing himself and performing a sex act in front of a woman when officers entered her home during an investigation. He is scheduled for trial in October. Another former officer, Adrian Makuch, pleaded guilty last year to soliciting a teenage boy for sex.
