The fate of a North Philadelphia man convicted of murdering a homicide witness in 2006 is sealed.

Gov. Tom Corbett Thursday signed the execution warrant for Donte Thomas, who shot and killed Tyreese Gaymon in 2006.

Thomas, now 36, killed Gaymon on the corner of 15th and Thompson Streets on Feb. 3 2006 blocks away from the Temple University campus. Thomas walked in front of Gaymon and his three friends and shot him to death. The three friends identified Thomas as the shooter.

Thomas killed Tyreese Gaymon for Kareem Glass, who was awaiting trial for the murder of Gaymon’s cousin, Tyreek. Glass was worried Tyreese would testify.

While in prison, Thomas told another inmate about his murdering of Gaymon, and asked the inmate to help murder one of the three witnesses. The inmate instead contacted police.

Thomas will be executed by lethal injection on March 13.He was sentenced to death in September 2007.

This was the 30th warrant Corbett has signed since he took office.
