Defense gets its swagger back

After allowing 38 points and an astounding 512 total yards at New York, the Eagles’ defense clamped down on the visiting 49ers at the Linc. San Francisco managed just 277 total yards and 13 points, coughing up four first-half interceptions.

“We won last week, first off, but we know we didn’t do a good job,” said cornerback Asante Samuel, whose interception was one of three for the team and the eighth of his season. “Our mindset was just to come out and execute the way we know how.”

Quintin Mikell and Tracy White each picked off San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith. Cornerback Sheldon Brown ended a 49ers scoring threat by stripping Delanie Walker on the 6-yard line, and Samuel recovered the fumble.

The Eagles were able to pressure Smith all game long, and Trent Cole got to him twice to up his season sack total to 11.5.
