Just days after being shot seven times, a Folcroft police officer is going home.
Officer Christopher Dorman, 25, was responding to a report of a drug deal in a Folcroft, Delaware County, apartment complexaround 10 a.m. Friday. Dorman was the first officer on the scene, and approached the suspect, who drew his weapon and fired, striking Dorman seven times, the Delaware County Times reported. The suspect, identified as Donte Brooks Island, then opened fire on a second officer. He’s charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and related offenses, according to 6ABC. Dorman was struck once in the face, four times in the chest, once in the groin and once in the leg. Police said the officer was wearing his bullet proof vest, which likely saved his life. Dorman is being hailed as a hero online, with use of the #DelcoHeroand #DelcoLegend hashtags. But that’s not the only notoriety his ordeal has received.
On Saturday, singer Kenny Chesney performed at Lincoln Financial Field, where hemistakenly announcedto the crowd that Dorman had passed away. The officer had previously asked Chesney to give a shout-out, saying “Don’t forget me” in a short video posted to Twitter.
@kennychesney just said that officer Dorman passed away…THAT IS FALSE. HE IS ALIVE AND WELL!!

But once realizing his flub — with the help of a swift response on social media calling him out—Chesney did make it right.
According to the Folcroft Police Department’s Twitter, the country music star called Dormanto apologize and wished him the best. Chesney said he even invited Dorman to watch an Eagles game and have some beers.
So @kennychesney just called @FolcroftPD #OfficerDorman to apologize and wish him the best. How cool is that? #Dormanthedelcolegend
