A driver intentionally ran over and killed a 28-year-old man before fleeing the scene early Sunday morning in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

Officers responded just after 3:15 a.m. to the corner of 61st Street and Passyunk Avenue, where they found an unconscious man on the road, according to authorities. He was declared dead a short time later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Investigators said the victim had been involved in an argument with a man behind the wheel of a white Dodge Durango with tinted windows. He was standing in front of the SUV when the driver accelerated and dragged him about 100 feet down the street, police said.

The suspect got out of the vehicle and took a look at the man before driving away, according to investigators.

Authorities have not released any surveillance video or images of the incident, and the PPD has not publicly identified the victim.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact the department’s Homicide Unit 215-686-3334 or call or text 215-686-TIPS (8477).
