Eagles extend Malcolm Jenkins through 2020 with new deal

The Eagles continue to firm up Jim Schwartz’ defense, announcing a five-year contract extension for Malcolm Jenkins Monday.

Jenkins, 28, will remain with the Eagles until 2020 following his best season as a safety, leading the Birds in tackles with 120 and earning a Pro Bowl spot.

Numbers have not been revealed yet, but the consensus is Howie Rosemanprobablyfound a way to save money, perhaps lowering Jenkins’ cap hit from the $7.166 million it was set to be in 2016. He did a similar trick with the contracts of recent re-signeesBrent Celek, Vinny Curry and others.

The former Saint has been one of the Eagles’ defensive leaders in the locker room along with DeMeco Ryans and his value both on the field and off was high for Philly as it reloads for 2016.

The New Jersey native and Ohio State alum is set to address the media at 3:30 this afternoon.
