The drama is over. The Eagles hope.
Fletcher Cox, Philly’s stud Pro Bowl defensive end is a very rich man today — signing the richest contract for a non quarterback in NFL history at six years, $103 million.
The guarantee is also massive as Cox cashes in with $63 million no matter what happens.
The former first round pick had a breakout year in 2015, setting career highs in total tackles (104), solo tackles (80), tackles for a loss (16.5), sacks (9.5) and forced fumbles (three).
Cox’ 22 career sacks are already the sixth-most by an interior defensive lineman in Eagles’ history.
With Doug Pederson and Jim Schwartz now at the helm, implementing a 4-3 defensive scheme, many expect Cox’ production to continue to increase.
“It’s just getting off the ball and going to have fun,” Cox told the media last week when he returned to the NovaCareComplex after skipping voluntaryOTAs.”Alot of negative plays.”
Cox and Schwartz are a match made in heaven, and obviously the big pass rusher was a big draw for the former head coach to make his jump to Philadelphia.
“That’s what I like about this scheme is all the negative plays,” Cox said.
The Eagles report to training camp in late July and will have — as of right now — 90 happy players on campus.
