Eagles’ Kelly sees correctable mistakes

Eagles coach Chip Kelly reviewed the Broncos’ film and has moved on to the New York Giants.

Despite a 52-20 shellacking Sunday afternoon to the all-mighty Denver Broncos, Chip Kelly was surprisingly upbeat at his day-after press conference. The Eagles coach reviewed the film, graded players out and has moved on.

Kelly didn’t want to dwell too much on the mistakes, although he admitted that Denver’s back-breaking punt block was a severe oversight.

“Yeah, punt block, might have been even like a three-and-a-half-man rush,” Kelly said. “We had a guy trying to escape and get down the field too quick trying to cover the punt and not taking care of the little things, and it’s a lot of times, it’s the devil is in the details — the little teeny things that you’ve got to take care of, especially when you’re playing such a good football team.”

After reviewing tape, Kelly didn’t see any major problems that he couldn’t fix. The coach also doesn’t anticipate any changes to his starting lineup.

“We have got 46 guys on our roster and I think almost all 46 played,” Kelly said. “So it’s not like we are not getting guys in the game and guys are not playing and aren’t giving us an opportunity right now. It’s not different than, you don’t have a whole, other guys, like let’s put these guys in. We are rotating our defensive linemen in and getting those guys in the game.”

Kelly expressed some concern over the offense’s inability to complete drives. The Eagles, aside from the punt block, didn’t turn the ball over. However, some bad penalties stalled drives or extended them for the Broncos. Mental miscues can’t happen, either.

“I don’t think we are far away offensively,” Kelly said. “I look at what we have done consistently in four games. I think we know as a group we can move the football, but sometimes the enemy that we play isn’t the other team, it’s ourselves.”
