Eagles Mock Draft 2.0: HUGE trades to push the Birds back to the Super Bowl

Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles struggled to get consistent production from their early-round draft picks over the last few years, with some very recent eceptions. That ends with the 2024 NFL Draft. All eight of these draft picks could contribute in year one, and half could end up with significant playing time.

EAGLES TRADE

Howie Roseman starts off the draft with a trade to move up, something he is very used to and comfortable doing. The Eagles trade picks 22 & 53 in the 2024 NFL Draft as well as a 2025 2nd RD selection to the Las Vegas Raiders for picks 13, 77, & 148.

RD1, Pick 13: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama (From LV)

Simply put, Terrion is the best cornerback in the draft. He has the skill set, the maturity, and the desire to be one of the best in the NFL too. He annoys WRs with his press style and uses his hands to disrupt receivers as well as anyone in college last year.

Arnold is also very patient and allows the receiver to come to him. He mirrors them as well as anyone in class. He has elite play recognition demonstrating a very high football IQ and communicates well with everyone in the backfield, passes off routes with ease. The former safety also transitions better than anyone else in the class. He defends every route. Arnold has the speed to cover verticals and can play both inside and out. He also has the all-important finger-wag swag.

Terrion displays solid technique in his above-average tackling form and elite closing speed on ball carriers. He is very physical and not only does he not shy away from contact, he welcomes it.

Arnold has a relentless work ethic and the desire to be the best. He is the best corner in the draft and can change the outlook of the defense for years to come.

EAGLES TRADE

The Eagles are at it again, this time the Eagles are moving down from 50 to gain a 3rd Rd pick. They deal picks 50, 120, & 210 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for picks 57 and 89.

Round 2, pick 57: Michael Hall Jr, DT, Ohio St (From Tampa)

Michael’s toolbox floweth over. He is loaded with talent. He is physical and dominates with elite upper-body strength. Partnered with an explosive first step, agility, combative hands, and a variety of pass-rushing moves in his pocket, he has a very high ceiling.

Playing against some of the best talent in the draft, Hall was one of the best DTs in Mobile at the Senior Bowl and was named the top DL for the National team in a vote from OL teammates at the practice player-of-the-week awards. With the exorbitant cost of DTs in free agency, selecting another top-tier defensive lineman early makes a lot of sense and stays true to the Eagles’ core belief of building through and developing the trenches.

Round 3, Pick 77: Kiran Amegadjie, OL, Yale (From LV)

Eagles RT Lane Johnson indicates he still loves playing, and he also 4 years on his deal. While I do not see a need to draft his replacement this many years in advance, finding someone who could contribute right away to play tackle or guard if needed would be ideal.

Kiran Amegadjie has played both guard and tackle at the collegiate level and has displayed all of the traits to be successful in the NFL as a future long-term Tackle.

He has elite arm length, independent hands, a strong grip, and a powerful frame. Amegadjie stands defenders up in pass-pro and is a vicious & controlled run blocker. He is raw, but smart, & has traits that can’t be taught. A very aggressive player with a high ceiling.

Round 3, pick 89: Trevin Wallace, LB, Kentucky (From Tampa)

Wallace is one of the top LBs in the 2024 draft class and has been grossly underrated this draft cycle. At 21-years-old, he is also one of the younger LB prospects this year, yet he has already proven to be a leader as he was a team captain for Kentucky.

He plays quickly, uses angles well, and has a great burst. Wallace pursues ball carries with a purpose and is a finisher showcasing strong tackling. The Kentucky product can develop into a 3-down linebacker and would instantly provide elite special teams play for the Eagles. Wallace is an elite athlete and played RB, WR, and QB, amongst other positions, in High School. He has above-average ball skills and is a threat to score anytime he gets his hands on a turnover.

Round 5, pick 148: Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M (From LV)

Standing 5’10, Ainias would be the shortest receiver Howie ever drafted. Smith is a versatile player as a receiver (primarily slot), a hard runner, and can be a difference-maker on special teams (potential KR, especially with the new rules) He plays quick, is elusive, creates space, & generates a lot of YAC. He would complement what AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith bring to the offense and be a solid WR3.

Round 5, Pick 161: Mohamed Kamara, DE, Colorado St

Mohamed has a great first step and elite speed, using a large array of pass-rush moves to get to the QB. He has violent and combative hands combined with a strong base that he uses well in leverage. Kamara was also very productive for Colorado St registering 21.5 sacks over the last 2 seasons and 33 TFLs.

Other Edge rushers to know: Javon Solomon, Jalyx Hunt, & Gabriel Murphy

Round 5, pick 171: Dylan Laube, RB, New Hampshire

One of the best route runners in the RB class. Catches almost everything thrown his way. His ability as a receiving threat coupled with his elusive running style is a dangerous combination! At New Hampshire last season Laube had 68 receptions for 699 yds and 7 TDs while also adding 158 carries for 715 yds and 9 TDs via the ground. He showed off his big play ability with an 80 & 75-yard play. Dylan also returned a punt and a kickoff for a TD on his way to leading the FCS in all-purpose yards with 2095. An exciting and versatile player who would be a welcomed addition to the Eagles offense in 2024.

RD 5 172 Tip Reiman TE Illinois

At 6’5 270, Reiman uses his size to his advantage and is an elite blocker in the pass or run game. With Saquon Barkley added to the offense, having Tip on the line would almost be a cheat code. He drives defenders back and is also quick enough to get to his spots down the field.

Reiman has decent receiving ability and would be a solid TE2 with a potential for TE1 upside. He has a surprisingly quick burst and is very effective in short routes. His 10-yard split was incredible and showcased his ability to work in short-distance space. Reiman also comes up big when his team needs a 1st down. If he can hone his route-running techniques, he will be someone who will be viewed as a late-round steal a year or two in the future, and could be a perfect fit in this Eagles offense.

As always, thank you for reading.
