Adam Schefter, the reliable NFL expert of ESPN fame dropped a bombshell on humble Philadelphia Sunday evening: The Eagles plan to sign Tim Tebowon Monday.

The Eagles, who already have three quarterbacks on contract (two with big deals, Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez) will bring in the mobile signal-caller to perhaps compete for the No. 3 spot against Matt Barkley. Or, he could just give the team depth and be off the roster by the time the Birds break camp.

Either way, he could get some action in the preseason. And if he impresses enough, he could be an interesting fit for Chip Kelly’s offense.

There is also speculation that the Eagles are considering trading Barkley for a late draft pick, and if the team does not draft a QB, Tebow slides nicely into the third position on the depth chart.

After leading the Broncos to an exciting playoff victory and then a relatively mundane stint with the Jets, Tebow has spent two regularseasons out of the NFL. But the Eagles wanted to bring in another quarterback (they carried five to camp last year) and Tebowreportedly impressed Kelly when he worked out for the team a few weeks ago.

He appeared in the preseason with the Patriots in 2013 before pursuing a broadcasting career. He will probably be putting it on hold now.

Tebow has an 8-6 career record as a starter, but has completed just 47.9 percent of his passes in the NFL with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

He is in Philadelphia and is expected to sign a contract tomorrow. The details are yet unknown.
