The Carson Wentz era in Philadelphia is officially over.
The Eagles will trade their once-perceived franchise quarterback to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round draft pick and conditional second-round draft pick in 2022, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The conditional 2022 pick could be upgraded to a first-round selection depending on Wentz’s performance and if the Colts make the postseason.
The trade cannot be officially processed until the NFL year begins on March 17.
Wentz has a history with Colts head coach Frank Reich, who was Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator from 2016-2017—that last year seeing Wentz develop into an MVP candidate before injuries cut his campaign short. A reunion in Indianapolis offers Wentz an improved chance of regaining his early-career form.
The news does not come as a huge surprise in Philadelphia—the Eagles were expected to move on from the controversial quarterback, who was benched in Week 13 due to performance reasons and made his unhappiness plenty evident.
