Earth Day in Philadelphia takes place Monday, April 22, and there are multiple opportunities beyond that date to celebrate and help the City of Brotherly Love turn green—and we’ve got the scoop on them all.

Franklin Square

On April 20, Philadelphians can head to the historic park to partake in Earth Day activities and children’s crafts from noon to 2 p.m. Highlights span learning about birds (and making a bird craft with the “Bird Nerd” of the Wissahickon), free games, giant bubbles, music, fitness fun, and a play party for children with YoYo.

The following day (Sunday, April 21), locals can head back to the Square to join the Climate Action Campaign and partners for a Climate Solutions ‘Now Earth Day Block Party’ to celebrate the great strides that have been made to combat climate change and the need for climate solutions now, a release notes.

This free event features performances by local Philadelphia artists like Speedy Ortiz, a speaking program, activities for kids and families, free food, and more.

For the first time ever, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University will be launching an environmentally focused film festival titled ‘Confluence: Earthly Films for Philadelphia.’ The event will take place April 19 to 21 and feature an array of feature-length, short and documentary films crafted by local, national and international filmmakers.

Films will be shown around the city at places like the Academy, Bryn Mawr Film Institute and Cherry Street Pier, and will put an emphasis on spreading awareness around water-related environmental justice and climate change issues across the globe.

In partnership with Bario Neal (a local sustainably made and women-owned jewelry brand) the event will be led by the venue’s tea experts, and feature an interactive blending session to “celebrate mother nature.” Participants will also receive a custom permanent bracelet from Bario Neal made with sustainably sourced, 100% recycled silver.

According to a release, seats are available for 12:30 p.m. and tickets are priced at $175 per person. Each ticket includes a Bario Neal permanent bracelet, access to the tea blending experience, afternoon bites and a glass of bubbles. Jewelry, food and beverage upgrades are available for purchase a la carte.

The event will sell growlers to go (with $5 refills for future use) and showcase more information on how the venue uses repurposed materials in their space and saves big for the environment by utilizing a wine-on-tap system, refillable water stations and a pledge to eliminate single-use plastic.
