You can shop till you drop this weekend in South Philly, or more specifically, Saturday in East Passyunk. During the Second Saturday Summer Sidewalk Sale and Stroll visitors can find an assortment of offerings from the area’s shops, boutiques, and more, plus pop-ups, and grab-and-go fare, with a line-up of live music and entertainment.
On Aug. 13, Philadelphians looking for vintage finds to unique gifts and everything in between can head to the colorful and eclectic neighborhood of the city all day from morning until night—and most of it is laid out on the sidewalk.
The Second Saturday Summer Sidewalk Sale and Stroll, according to a release, is designed to showcase delightful, one-of-a-kind offerings from the many independently owned retail shops and services along the Avenue, as well as providing locals and tourists an opportunity to browse a variety of hand-picked wares, great gifting items, unique clothing, cool accessories, artwork and so much more.
And each venue has its own idea of how to celebrate the day.
For most of Saturday, Nice Things Handmade, Occasionette, and NRS Boutique will have racks, tables, and special pop-ups along their storefronts (each running under specific hours.) However other businesses participating will offer more curated events and showcases to look forward to as well.
Deja 42 Art Gallery for one will be highlighting its opening reception for the new art exhibit “Inventum Terrae,” while also offering the chance for visitors to browse through artwork and crafted gifts. Good Buy Supply on the other hand wants to act as a “one-stop-shop for everything sustainable, including home goods, glass recycling, and so much more.”
East Passyunk is also home to more varied options—such as Latchkey, aka the area’s “love letter to the ‘80s and ‘90s,” which will offer vinyl, tees, gifts, and more. Men’s retail will also have a hand in the day-long event with Metro Men’s Clothing offering guests complimentary classic and spicy margaritas while shopping. South Fellini, a hub for Philly-themed tees, hats, pins, and more along with Utopia Collective, a storefront boasting curated home goods, gifts, and décor will also be participating.
“There’s always something happening on East Passyunk, and this Saturday, there’s an abundance of reasons to enjoy a summer stroll along the Avenue,” said Adam Leiter, Executive Director of East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District in a statement. “With newly opened shops, a chance to explore sidewalk sales, new food spots, and favorites with drink and dining options, we have your mid-summer fun taken care of. Look for pop-up music at the Singing Fountain, and spend a beautiful summer day in South Philly.”
According to a release, EPABID will also host live music featuring local musical acts at the Singing Fountain for Philadelphians to enjoy including Dot Rose of Dottie’s Serenade Service at noon, Mark Brown on the saxophone at 1 p.m., and Shakey Lyman at 3 p.m. In addition to fan-favorite indoor and outdoor dining destinations, folks can select grab-and-go options from D’Emilio’s Old World Ice Treats, Essen Bakery, Juana Tamale, Kouklet Bakehouse, Milk Jawn, Primal Supply Meats, Stargazy, Teas n’ Mi, and Vanilya Bakery.
