Enjoy a fancy meal and a private screening of ‘Dracula’ at The Hyatt at the Bellevue

Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, so most of us will be partying over the weekend leading up to it. However, if you’re looking for something refined and elegant to do on actual Halloween, The Hyatt at the Bellevue is hosting “Dinner with Dracula” — and it’s just as intriguing as it sounds.

Beginning at 7 p.m., guests will be served a prix fixe meal in the Rose Garden ballroom on the 19th floor of the hotel. The first course will be a winter squash risotto followed by roasted squab  and Skull Island prawns, served with celery root puree, black trumpet mushroom, crosne, crushed hazelnut and nueske bacon in a pinot noir sauce. (In case you didn’t know, squab is pigeon!)

For a sweet finish, a bleeding white chocolate mousse will be served for dessert.

As if that wasn’t fabulous enough, dinner will be followed by a private screening of the 1931 film, “Dracula.”

“We’re very excited to show this classic film in the place that holds historical significance to the creation of this iconic book, film, and character,” says Carolyn McCammon, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hyatt at The Bellevue. “This will be an immersive Halloween experience, with a decadent meal that awakes the senses, and a movie that truly thrills.”

So what is the historical significance of “Dracula” and the Hyatt at the Bellevue? Apparently, Bram Stoker, the author who wrote “Dracula,” stayed at the hotel back in the day.

“It is believed that Bram Stoker was a guest of the hotel during his visit to Philadelphia in 1884,” reveals McCammon. “According to his son, Stoker always claimed the inspiration came from a nightmare induced by ‘a too-generous helping of dressed crab at supper’ –  at The Bellevue perhaps? In all likelihood not, but it’s nice to think of the indulgences of the day that the hotel was known for being the catalyst for one of the greatest stories of all time.”

Well, if writing one of the world’s most famous novels was inspired by eating indulgent food late at night, we can all feel much better about downing pints of Ben & Jerry’s in the wee hours.
