Chestnut Hill’s Witches and Wizards Festival is back and this year promises to be the best one yet. This magical weekend includes plenty of food, drinks, activities and family fun for everyone.

What is the Wizards and Witches Festival?

The Witches and Wizards Festival is a full day of mystical activities, but the fun starts the night before at the Brews & Broomsticks Pub Crawl. There are 10 participating bars from 7700 to 8700 Germantown Avenue that are offering specials for the crawl ($4 beer, $5 wine, $6 cocktails with the wristband). Expect two outdoor beer gardens, costumed actors, DJ Jamie Grimble and fortune tellers along Germantown Avenue, performances by circus aerialists and fire-breathers, a recreational archery range, a costume contest at Venetian social club and The Franklin Institute’s popular Science After Hours showcase.

The next day gear up for the grand event, the festival is jam-packed with a ton of enjoyable activities. Watch the 9th Annual Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament; the tournament returns this year with teams from visiting colleges and the local community teams competing in round-robin style Quidditch matches. The tournament starts a little earlier than the rest of the festivities at 10 A.M. For little tykes stop by the Hocus Pocus Headquarters (recommended for ages 3- 10) to take part in the kids’ crafting activities. You can pre-purchase your wristband for the HPH online for your kiddos, but parents are allowed in for free.

Be sure to stop by the Woodmere Art Museum Straw Maze & Little Circus; the maze is made from massive straw bales and features multiple levels, spirals, and surprises while the circus will feature outdoor aerial performances, juggling, and tightrope walking, beginning at 2 pm. Other activities include Jenks Academy of Witchcraft & Wizardry, Creepy pumpkin crafting, Potion making with a fortune teller, an Archery Range, a slow-motion video booth, face painting, a ghost walk and much more.

There will be plenty of live entertainment as well including fire-breathers, zombie dance parties and a costume parade and contest. Also, note that five public paid parking lots will be open throughout Chestnut Hill during the event. General admission is free, and the other activities involved are pay-as-you-go.
