New York State Police

After a morning search in the Philadelphia area, authorities say they have discounted a cabbie’s report that he gave a ride to two escapeesfrom a New York prison.

David Sweat and Richard Matt, both convicted murderers and on the run now for six days, escaped from a maximum-security prison in upstate New Yorkon Saturday.

Authorities have determined that the cabbie was incorrect when he told authorities two passengers he dropped off at 30th Street Station at 5 a.m.matched the descriptions of Sweat and Matt, ABC reported.

Police called off their search after reviewing surveillance footage of the cabbie dropping off the passengers.

The manhunt for Matt and Sweat has now expanded to multiple states as reports say that a female prison worker helped the two plan their escape from the prison through underground pipes.
