Fantasy football injuries, sit start: latest on Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, Leonard Fournette

Have fantasy football anxiety? It’s completely understandable if you do. A very, very long list of A-list fantasy stars are listed on injury reports and team owners are frantically looking to hedge their bets in case their quarterback (Jameis Winston or Cam Newton), running back (Leonard Fournette, Melvin Gordon or many others) or wide out (DeMaryius Thomas or Sterling Shepard) doesn’t suit up Sunday in Week 7.

Here’s a look at the latest we know on some top fantasy stars:

Jameis Winston, QB, Buccaneers

Winston practiced Wednesday but didn’t throw, and Thursday was limited but did throw a bit. He says he is “ready to go” despite the shoulder injury that pulled him fron the game last week. Justg in case, Ryan Fitzpatrick is getting first team reps. Beware.

DeMarco Murray, RB, Titans

More troubling than Murray’s minor hamstring injury is his likely splitting of carries with Derrick Henry. His fantasy stock is falling.

Leonard Fournette, RB, Jaguars

Fournette has missed two straight practices with an ankle injury but insiders — including ESPN’s Adam Schefter — insist he will suit up and play in Week 7.

Emmanuel Sanders, DeMaryius Thomas, WR, Broncos

Sanders is listed as out, and Thomas is nursing a hamstring injury but is expected to play Sunday. Either way, Bennis Fowler III is worth a look.

Melvin Gordon, RB, Chargers

Gordon is limited in practice with a shoulder injury. It’s likely he will play but it can’t hurt to be prepared with Branden Oliver.

Jordan Matthews, WR, Bills

Many leagues have Buffalo’s big wide out available and with his thumb injury nearly in the rearview, it’s the perfect time to make an under-the-radar signing of Matthews in case he does start in Week 7. If not, you’ll have a startable No 1 wide receiver ready to go next week.

Cam Newton, QB, Panthers

Newton is another star NFL player limited in practice due to a shoulder injury. He’s been playing banged up all season and had a long week to recover after losing the Eagles last Thursday.

Sterling Shepard, WR, Giants

Shepard could actually play Sunday, after becoming one of four Giants’ WR injured two weeks ago in a freak game for New York. He is listed as questionable, and if active could get a bevy of opportunities from Eli Manning.
