FBI: Large theft of new $100 bills from plane in Philadelphia

The FBI is investigating a large theft of $100 bills not yet in circulation from a plane in Philadelphia.

Authorities said the commercial flight arrived into Philadelphia from Dallas at approximately 10:25 a.m. The theft was not reported until about 2 p.m. by a courier service when the money arrived at the Federal Reserve Building in East Rutherford N.J.

The bills were not scheduled to go into circulation until next year, the FBI said. They would not disclose exactly how much money was taken, citing the ongoing investigation.

“Right now we’re looking at all potential subjects and all leads are being investigated,” said Special Agent Frank Burton.

All merchants are advised to be on the lookout for these bills. Anyone with information is asked to call 215-418-4000.
