Federal gun ruling fuels local interest

The debate over gun regulations in cities like Philadelphia raged on yesterday in the hours after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that local and state authorities have no right to limit ownership of weapons.

However, one of the leading advocates for gun reform in Pennsylvania said Philadelphia’s current law requiring immediate reporting of lost or stolen guns should not be affected by the high court’s ruling.

“The key to the ruling is that reasonable regulations and restrictions are permissible under the Constitution,” CeaseFirePA executive director Joe Grace said. “The kind of reforms we’re working on, such as ‘lost and stolen’ are very reasonable and what the Supreme Court had in mind.”
