K-dramas—the popular name given to Korean series—are here to stay, so if you haven’t seen any yet, it’s time to dive in.
The stories are charming, with endearing characters and an aesthetic that envelops the audience from beginning to end. You can find everything from historical dramas to those filled with lessons of love and self-improvement.
Here is a list of productions that will keep you glued to the screen from beginning to end.
This is not a typical romcom K-Drama but it will definitely make you sigh and smile.
The plot revolves around a psychiatric ward employee and a woman with an antisocial personality disorder. She is a popular children’s book writer who doesn’t know love. And he is reluctant to open his heart. Fate makes them defy their own ideals and fall in love with each other.
A series will give you a sense of relief and you can watch it more than once as it shows how people deal with problems differently.
This series has become one of the favorites among fans thanks to the way it introduces the audience to South Korean history and tradition.
It aired from Oct. 11 until Dec. 14, 2021 and features 20 episodes in which you go from drama to action and romance. The story is set in the Joseon Dynasty era, with the crown prince’s wife giving birth to twins. However, laws condemning women mean that the girl must be killed and the boy is allowed to live, something Noh Ha-Kyung is unwilling to do and so they are separated. Years later, the twins are reunited. He is murdered and she must keep the secret by taking her brother’s identity.
Starring Shin Min-a, Kim Seon-ho and Lee Sang-yi, this drama is a remake of the 2004 popular South Korean film “Mr. Handy, Mr. Hong.” If you have never seen a K-drama, this is an excellent one to start with. The main character is Yoon Hye-jin (played by Shin Min-a), a dentist from Seoul who works in a private clinic. After losing her job, she arrives in the small town of Gongjin where she meets Hong Du-sik (Kim Seon-ho), one of the most beloved guys there.
Boys Over Flowers (Boys Are Better Than Flowers)
This is the ultimate newbie drama and while it may be a bit old, it will definitely grab your attention. It first aired in 2009 and is considered a K-drama classic. The drama features a high school love story with students of great socioeconomic contrasts. It stars Lee Minho, Ku Hye-Sun and Kim Hyun-Joong. The main character is Gu Jun Pyo, a bandleader and one of the most popular guys in school who starts to have feelings for Geum Jan Di. It is then that a love triangle begins as his classmate Yoon Ji Hoo also falls in love with her.
It is a 2019 series starring Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young. Lee Young-joon (played by Park Seo-joon) is the vice president of a major company in South Korea. However, his world is turned upside down when the secretary, Kim Mi-so (Park Min-young), announces that she will resign after working for him for years. He will do everything he can to keep her from leaving, and that sets off a series of events that leads them to fall in love.
