Five wounded in shootings

Five people were shot Sunday night and Monday morning in Philadelphia, including three men who were struck by gunfire in Center City.

Police said shots rang out at around 10:45 p.m. on the 400 block of S. 13th Street. Two 19-year-old men were taken to Jefferson University Hospital. One of the men was struck in the left arm, and the other was hit in the buttocks.

The third victim, a 20-year-old man, was shot once in the right leg and is being treated at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, authorities said.

All three are expected to survive, according to police.

Earlier in the night, at around 9:45 p.m., a 47-year-old man showed up at Nazareth Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left hand.

Investigators said he was working on his motorcycle outside his house on the 4200 block of Welsh Road in Holmesburg when a man tried to rob him. When the suspect pulled out a gun, the 47-year-old man grabbed it and at least one shot was fired.

A friend drove him to the hospital, where he was in stable condition, police said.

In North Philadelphia, just before 12:30 a.m. Monday, a 40-year-old man was shot nine times in his neck, shoulder and back inside a car on the 2600 block of W. Glenwood Avenue, authorities said.

Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Police did not report any arrests in the immediate aftermath of the recent shootings.
