Here’s what’s cooking up at Flavors on the Avenue 2024

One of the city’s largest and longest-running food festivals returns this weekend, and it will feature five blocks of street food, seasonal sips, craft beer, live music and sidewalk sales.

Flavors on the Avenue is now in its 18th year, and the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District has set the date for this Sunday, April 28, for the festivities. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., locals can spend time eating and drinking their way through the South Philadelphia neighborhood with over two dozen of the city’s top restaurants, cafes and bars participating.

Highlights span fare from Barcelona Wine Bar, Bing Bing Dim Sum, Cantina Los Caballitos, Le Virtu, Ember & Ash, Flannel, Milk Jawn, Noir, Ocho Rios Parrilla, Pistolas Del Sur, Pizzata Pizzeria and Birreria, P’UNK burger, Stogie Joes, Townsend, Vanilya Bakery and more.

On top of the food and drinks being offered, over 100 vendors will line the Avenue, including 80-plus artists and makers curated by Nice Things Handmade.

Other specials from local spots for the occasion include 40% off select titles, $5 and $1 books at A Novel Idea (there will also be tarot card readings); giveaways and games at Tildie’s Toy Box; hourly family friendly shows at Sawubona Creativity Project; and much more (a full list of specials can be found online).

Live music will also be spread throughout the event with talent including Brown Sugar, the Cheddar Boys, Mike Carney, Cordelia Blue and other local acts.

Along with endless food, drink and music options, Flavors on the Ave will also offer free activities (presented by Philadelphia Union Soccer and The Capri Dessecker Team | RE/MAX One Realty Realty) including arts and crafts, games, a moon bounce and plenty more. A number of boutiques and businesses along East Passyunk will host workshops, activities and family fun inside their spaces as well, according to a news release.

“Flavors on the Avenue started back in 2007 and has grown to become one of the most popular outdoor food festivals in Philadelphia,” said EPABID Board President Michelle Gillen-Doobrajh, owner of Tildie’s Toy Box and Tiny Tildie’s, in a statement.

“Flavors is the Avenue’s invitation for people from across the region to share our love of food,” she continued. “It is a time to come together and celebrate the top chefs and restaurants that make East Passyunk one of the top food destinations in America. It is also the chance to explore our fast-growing retail scene, while supporting local small businesses. Come for the food and the drink, but stay for the music, the community, the activities and the shopping. Make it a day with us on East Passyunk.”

The festivities will run along East Passyunk, from Broad to Dickinson streets. The event is open to all ages, with food and drink pay-as-you-go. For more information, visit visiteastpassyunk.com or follow @eastpassyunk.
