Four people were injured in a police-involved car accident in Elmwood late this morning.
Officers responding to a radio call for a gunpoint robbery at 65th Street and Elmwood Avenue pursued a gold Oldsmobile Alero allegedly involved in the crime shortly before 10:15 a.m. The Oldsmobile ran a red light, striking a van.
When the Oldsmobile driver fled on foot, police hit him, then crashed into a storefront.
One officer is in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with forehead lacerations, while the second is expected to be treated and released for complaints of head pain. The Oldsmobile driver, 24, suffered multiple injuries to both legs and is in critical condition. A passenger of the van, 69, suffered fractures to her ribs and lung injuries and is in stable condition.
The Accident Investigation Division has taken over the investigation.
