Four people were killed in violent altercations over the weekend in Philadelphia, raising the city’s homicide toll to nearly 50 since the start of 2021.
On Sunday morning, at around 7:15 a.m., two people were struck by gunfire on the 800 block of E. Washington Lane in East Germantown, authorities said.
One of the victims, a 27-year-old man, sustained gunshot wounds to his back, neck, chest and head. He died a short time later at Einstein Medical Center, according to police.
A woman, described as 25 to 30 years old, was also shot in the right eye. Her injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, police said.
Authorities said a 20-year-old man died after being shot once in the head just before 3 a.m. Sunday inside a house on the 4900 block of Rorer Street in Feltonville.
In Kensington, a 48-year-old man was fatally stabbed at around 11 p.m. Saturday outside on the 100 block of E. Wishart Street, police said.
Detectives are investigating after an altercation turned deadly inside an apartment on the 5800 block of Florence Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia.
Police said a 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday. He was suffering from an injury to the left side of his head, investigators said.
No arrests have been made in connection with any of the weekend’s homicides.
Forty-eight people have been killed in Philadelphia in the first month of this year, an increase over this point in 2020, when the city recorded its highest homicide total in decades.
Several others were wounded in shootings and stabbings Saturday and Sunday.
At around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, a 36-year-old man was shot once in the right knee on the 5500 block of Germantown Avenue in Germantown, police said. He was transported to Einstein in stable condition.
Investigators said an 18-year-old man was stabbed in the left arm during an attempted robbery just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the 500 block of E. Loudon Street in Feltonville.
Nothing was taken from the teenager, and the suspect fled the scene, according to police.
A 16-year-old was stabbed in the left shoulder at 11 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Mascher Street and Allegheny Avenue in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia, authorities said.
He showed up to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children after the incident, and his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
Police said a 58-year-old man was in front of his house, on the 1900 block of W. Godfrey Avenue in East Germantown, just after 10:15 p.m. Saturday when he was shot once in the left foot. Officers took him to Einstein, where he was listed in stable condition.
A 28-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday after he was stabbed three times at around 9 p.m. on the 1600 block of Bridge Street in Frankford, authorities said.
Police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he is being treated for wounds to his upper back and chest.
In Oxford Circle, a 27-year-old man was shot in both arms and both legs just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1400 block of Stevens Street, authorities said. He was in critical condition at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.
A 19-year-old man walked into Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his upper left leg after a shooting at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of 46th and Parrish streets in West Philadelphia. He was in stable condition.
Authorities said a 39-year-old man was shot multiple times throughout his body just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the 6700 block of Martins Mill Road in the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia.
He was taken to Einstein in critical condition, according to police.
