Flavors on the Avenue 

This annual spring festival will feature live entertainment, a various amount of craft vendors, stellar sidewalk sales, family-oriented activities, and much more, all while showcasing the area’s cuisine and culture. And being home to more than 160 independently-owned shops and restaurants, visitors will have a lot to see when this event kicks off on Sunday, April 30. 

Flavors on the Avenue will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will showcase a wide range of fare, from Mexican to Asian-inspired to Southern-influenced and everything in between. Highlighted restaurants include Bing Bing Dim Sum, Cartesian Brewing, Kouklet Brazilian Bakery, Flannel, Laurel, La Scala’s Birra, Pistolas Del Sur, P’unk Burger, Moon Night and many more. 

On top of the food and drinks, Philadelphians can also find vendors selling an assortment of hand-made goods, live entertainment and plenty of other activities.

Sail Into Spring Weekends at the MoAR

It’s your last chance to take part in the Museum of the American Revolution’s Sail Into Spring activation where Philadelphians can head to the cultural institution this Saturday and Sunday to check out activities surrounding the museum’s new special exhibition, ‘Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia.’

Activities will span Stories On Deck where a museum educator unpacks items from a sea chest, pop-up talks covering what life was like at sea during the Revolutionary War, a neighborhood walking tour and much more. 

Tickets for outdoor walking tours can be purchased online or at the front desk. All other Spring Weekend activities are included with regular museum admission. The MoAR is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ‘Black Founders’ is open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is included with regular museum admission as well.

Sundays at Forsythia 

Forsythia recently launched two initiatives: Sundaes and the Weekend Wrap Up Happy Hour, and both of which will run for the spring and summer seasons. 

Sundaes will take place weekly from 5 to 10 p.m., and the multi-course menu will change weekly. Running for $70 per person, guests dining at Forsythia on Sundays this spring and summer can ultimately expect to enjoy a highly-inventive four-course menu that incorporates locally-sourced, hyper-seasonal ingredients and produce into the experience, and then, an inventive ice cream sundae dessert to wrap it all up. 

With the Weekend Wrap Up Happy Hour on the other hand, Philadelphians who dine at Forsythia for this particular experience can sit at the bar only every Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Happy hour offerings including spirited sippers such as the La Vie en Rose (gin, Luxardo Bitter Bianco, lime cordial and Lillet Rose), and Third Times The Charm (vodka, chocolate, vanilla, Rival Bros. Espresso) — all priced at $11. A host of house wines by the glass (sparkling, white, rosé, red) will be $10 as well as Peroni for $5, according to a release.

Halfway to Halloween Haunted House

Yes, it’s April, and yes, there is a haunted house opening for one night only this weekend. Lincoln Mill Haunted House will debut a special spring-time haunted tour, which features a new story to add to the ever-evolving plot of the venue. 

As the release states, the experience will feature dozens of scare-actors, and tours leave between 6:30 and 10 p.m., with tickets only $25 per person. All tickets include access before and after to the deck overlooking the Schuylkill River as well. Souvenir t-shirts are also available for only $12 when purchased in advance. Tickets are on sale.

The Philadelphia Show 

The Philadelphia Show is one of the nation’s leading art, antique and design fairs, and recently, the annual exhibition announced details for the 2023 showcase, which will take place from April 28 to 30.

This year’s activation marks the 61st year for the show, and in it, Philadelphians can find a variety of fine art, collectible design, antiques, Americana, folk art, ceramics, porcelain, silver, jewelry, textiles and decorative arts. Now organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it’s also held at the cultural institution on its East Terrace. 

This year marks only the second time the show has called this venue home, and this go-around also serves as the launch of several new exhibitors, joining longstanding and returning galleries to showcase works spanning from the 16th to 21st centuries.

The fair will celebrate its 61st edition with special programming leading up to, during and after the fair, including four virtual programs; show tours; booth discussions; and a children’s art table and treasure hunt, the release states. In addition to the virtual and in-person programming, the fair will also continue its tradition of the Loan Exhibition, a convention of The Philadelphia Show since its founding in 1962.
