Looking for some fun, unique and safe ways to spend your weekend? In the age of social distancing, Metro has you covered. A few Philly establishments have come up with inventive ways to still have fun this weekend while staying healthy.

PHeaSt: A Harvest Party 2020

This weekend Philadelphians who are looking to do something different and fun can join The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for a virtual celebration of good food, gardening, culture and family. The event takes place this Friday, Nov. 13, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and will feature a meal that highlights cross-cultural culinary treats, led by Nathalie Richan – chef/owner of Fishtown restaurants Suraya and Café La Maude. Richan will prepare a menu based on her Lebanese grandmother’s traditional recipes that she learned growing up in Beirut, and by purchasing a ticket, guests will also be directly supporting the PHS’s year-round efforts to help keep the region beautiful through greenery and gardens. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online. Registrants will receive a link to the virtual event as well as recipes for the evening’s preparations.

Devil’s Den Cocktail of the Month

While in South Philly this weekend head to local hotspot Devil’s Den for their cocktail of the month benefitting Morris Animal Refuge. According to a release, the Hot Tabby – ($9) – is composed of locally-made chai-spiced Kiki vodka, honey simple syrup, hot water, cloves and lemon. This spiced-twist on the traditional hot libation is sure to keep guests warm and cozy amidst the chilly weather ahead, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Morris Animal Refuge this month. While there, guests can also sit outside at Devil’s Den new  “streetery” area with heat lamps and peruse their menu filled with brews, cocktails, and bites.

Bark and Whine Gala 

On Nov. 14, the PSPCA will host their the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year, and this annual happenstance will be virtual for the current times. According to a release, the event, though online, will feature several ways to support the fight against animal cruelty.In the absence of a traditional dinner ticket, supporters can purchase a Bark-in-a-Box, which includes everything needed to celebrate in style at home. Among the items included are a cocktail kit from Casamigos & 13th Street Cocktails, an exclusive Bark & Whine 2020 t-shirt & coasters, snacks from J&J Snack Foods, and much more. Bark-in-a-Boxes will be dropped to homes by volunteers and PSPCA staff in the days ahead of the virtual event. The night of Bark & Whine will also feature an online silent auction, raffles, an adoptable animal cocktail hour sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and a mission raise video will round out the programming, highlighting the continued need to help animals in trouble, even during a pandemic. The event will run this Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m.

Musi BYOB “Jew-ish” Dinners

Musi BYOB in Pennsport recently announced their plans for their new “Jew-ish” dinners with several courses all specially designed by Chef Ari Miller and his team. The menu comprises of a bevy of different options including deviled huevos haminados; chopped liver croquettes with buckwheat bowties; apple and honey glazed Jew’s filet with pickled apples and Jerusalem artichokes; Manischewitz-poached apple and walnut frangipane pie; and an added pickle plate add-on. There is also a vegetarian menu option available, and the dinner can be enjoyed for indoor/outdoor dining or take-out as well for a prix-fixe price throughout November.

Iceless Curling at the Curling Café  

Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park recently opened a fun wintertime experience for families and groups of all ages to experience in person safely. The iceless curling experience will allow Philadelphians the chance to reserve a dedicated curling lane and bubble tent with food and drinks for 90 minutes. The packages available range from family versions for 1-4 or 5-8 people with the menu including a carafe of hot chocolate, chicken fingers with fries or a fried mozzarella and zucchini combo with fries, and brownie pops; and adult packages for 1-4 or 5-8 people with the menu including a carafe of wine or bucket of beer, beef sliders with fries or a fried mozzarella and zucchini combo with fries, and brownie pops. The extended weekend hours for this particular event are Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30-9 p.m.
