Good chance Kolb back under center

Kevin Kolb looks to be the one taking the first-team snaps at tomorrow’s Eagles practice. Of course, this is Andy Reid, so don’t be too surprised if he has a sudden change of heart between now and then.

Yesterday, however, the coach indicated that Kolb would get the starting nod Sunday in Tennessee. Michael Vick and his injured ribs are still healing.

“If [Vick] feels like he does [yesterday], it will be a reach,” Reid said. “There’s a pretty good chance Kevin’s the guy this week. There’s a pretty good chance of that.”

Kolb’s stock is high after guiding the Eagles to two straight victories. He has thrown for 579 yards and four touchdowns, while averaging a 118.4 QB rating in those contests. Kolb, meanwhile, is downplaying any controversy.

“I think it’s Mike [Vick] and [my] duty to do our best to make the decision as hard as possible and keep trying to play as good as possible,” Kolb told ESPN yesterday. “Wherever [Reid] goes, that’s what we’ll believe in.”

Here’s why Kevin Kolb needs to start:

1 Timing is right — This a dream scenario for Andy Reid. Seriously. Since the Eagles have a bye after Sunday, he can prolong the decision and give Michael Vick a full two weeks to rest his ribs.

2 Test his mettle — The main reason to start Vick has been his ability to mask a porous offensive line. Well, Kolb can debunk that myth, as the Titans have racked up the most sacks in the NFL.

3 Ride hot hand — It’s hard for any QB to play at a higher level than Kolb is right now. Plus benching him, for the second time in four weeks, is going to destroy his confidence. metro/mg
