Gunman fires round into fallen victim’s chest in Society Hill shooting

A man stood over his fallen victim and fired a round into his chest in Society Hill late Monday night.

The victim, 46, was shot after a fight with the gunman and an alleged accomplice knocked him to the ground on the 400 block of Pine Street around 11:20 p.m. Police found him lying on the northwest corner of Pine and Lawrence streets suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition.

Police said that a review of area surveillance video revealed that the two offenders were walking westbound on Pine when they encountered the victim and some kind of fight occurred, then they fled eastbound on Pine after the shooting.

The shooter is described as a six-foot to six-foot-two black man weighing between 170 and 180 pounds and wearing a dark, shiny vest, a black hoodie and jeans and the accomplice as a five-foot-nine black male of about 150 pounds with a dark complexion wearing all dark clothing.

It is unclear whether anything was taken from the victim or what the exact motive was, as he is not able to communicate due to his injuries, police said. The surveillance video is expected to be released later today.
