Heat wave claims fourth Philly victim in past three days

A fourth heat-related death has been blamed on the latest heat wave, which has lasted six days and was expected to continue on Tuesday.

A 72-year-old man, whose name has not been released, died Monday, the fourth death to be blamed on the high tempreatures and humidity in Philadelphia in the past three days, and the eighth heat-related death this summer, the Pennsylvania Health Department announced, NBC10 Philadelphia reported. The man suffered from diabetes,hypertension and obesity.

​A 59-year-old North Philadelphia man, an 82-year-old Port Richmond woman and a 67-year-old Brewerytown woman also died during the current heat wave. The women had other health conditions that contributed to their deaths, ABC6 Philadelphia reported.

Hitting record highs and triple-digitheat indexes, the heat wave will push on for at least one more day withheat index values expected to be 103 to 108 on Tuesday afternoon, the city said.The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for southeastern Pennsylvania.

Although the warning will be lifted on Tuesday, temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s.
