Heavy offseason baggage on board

Stacy Andrews and Kevin Curtis are due almost $12 million after roster bonuses next season. That’s a pretty steep price for a pair of players who saw very limited action this past season.

Andrews was brought in to be the team’s right tackle. After struggling to recover from offseason ACL surgery, he fell out of favor with the coaching staff. Andrews lost his starting job to Winston Justice before falling behind Max Jean-Gilles at right guard on the depth chart.

“You want to be out there but, at the same time, you want to be out there at your best so you can perform at a top level,” Andrews said. “I’ve been learning the whole time. I’m going to get the job done when the time comes.”

Meanwhile, Curtis was the projected starter at receiver opposite DeSean Jackson. But, when he injured his knee during the second week of the season, he was quickly replaced by rookie Jeremy Maclin.

“I felt helpless all year. I didn’t play much, I wasn’t healthy,” Curtis said.

Curtis said he knows he has to get back to 100 percent before the coaches can trust him again. If he is still on the roster when training camp opens, he isn’t against accepting a lesser role.

“I’ll help out wherever,” Curtis said. “This is a great team, with great coaches. This is where I want to be.”
