How to celebrate Labor Day weekend in Philly

Pop into a pop-up

It’s your last chance to take a stroll or lounge on a hammock this summer at Spruce Street Harbor Park. / M. Edlow for Visit Philadelphia

Delaware River Waterfront Corp. teamed up with outdoor experts Groundswell Design Group to bring Philly a new pop-up we’ve been enjoying all season, Spruce Street Harbor Park. Like all good things that combine beer, food, games and hammocks, this too must come to an end — but not quite yet. We just got word that the pop-up has been so popular, it’s being kept open for another month, so you can go this weekend and many times more until Sept. 28.

Check out a free outdoor concert

Fun for the whole family, and at a price we can all agree on, the 40th Street Summer Series will host its monthly outdoor concert Saturday evening. The series spotlights local talent and local retailers, so leave yourself some time to grab lunch at HipCityVeg and maybe find a gem at The Last Word Bookshop before grooving to tunes from the Brazilian and New Orleans-influenced band Nation Beat and bluegrass-ers The Highwater Preachers.

Drink bier

For those of us who welcome all the splendor of autumn there’s the Cannstatter 142 Volksfest, a very early Oktoberfest running for its 142nd year. Hosted by the German-American society Cannstatter Club, this family-friendly fest, will offer music, beer and bratwurst, which are the essential ingredients of happiness. The fest is Saturday through Monday and a three-day pass will only set you back $11.

Wave bye to Revel

Get in one last day of partying and pool time at HQ Beach Club at Revel. / JP Agustin

Yes, it’s true, the shiny monolith at the end of the boardwalk in Atlantic City is closing its doors for good. But there’s one more wild party to be had. The weekend includes day and night parties at HQ Beach Club and HQ Night Club, with DJS including Steve Aoki, fresh off his Made in America set in Philly, and Cedric Gervais.
