Illegal dumping argument sparks shootout, police say

A homeowner was shot Sunday night in North Philadelphia after confronting a man over illegal dumping, police said.

The incident occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on the 2500 block of N. Jessup Street, according to authorities. Investigators said the victim, a 34-year-old man, got into an argument with a man who was tossing trash into a vacant lot next to his house.

When the man turned to go back inside, shots rang out and he grabbed his legally-owned gun and returned fire, police said.

The homeowner was struck in the left arm and taken to Temple University Hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Investigators described the suspect as possibly in his 40s.

In other news, a 24-year-old man drove himself to the hospital after being shot in the leg at around 3:30 p.m. Monday near the corner of Howell and Hegerman streets in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia.

He is expected to physically recover, according to authorities.

A 34-year-old man was shot four times at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday outside on the 2300 block of N. 25th Street in North Philadelphia, police said.

He showed up at Temple University Hospital with wounds to both legs and was later listed in stable condition. No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
