On Wednesday, April 23, the Indego bike share program marked its 10th anniversary.
Brought to Philadelphians by the city, operator Bicycle Transit Systems, and Independence Blue Cross, Indego ridership has grown steadily since its 2015 inception. In 2023, it eclipsed 1 million rides in a single year. In 2024, that feat was surpassed with a record 1.3 million rides.
“When I look back on Indego’s first decade, the amount of growth and expansion is the clearest sign this program has been an overwhelming success,” said Waffiyyah Murray, Indego Program Manager, Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems. “Indego has become an integral part of Philadelphia’s public transportation network, and I take pride in our prioritization of equity by investing in service throughout the city.”
The Indego Share Program now has 250 stations and more than 2,200 bikes in circulation, giving over 8 million rides, traveling over 20 million miles, helping to reduce over 19 million pounds of CO2 and burning over 800 million calories.

“In its first ten years, Indego has become a vital part of the Philadelphia transportation ecosystem. IBX is incredibly proud of the amazing partnership with the City of Philadelphia and Bicycle Transit Systems, providing healthy, inclusive mobility to our communities,” said Greg Deavens, President and CEO, Independence Blue Cross.
10th anniversary celebration events
In celebration of 10 years of providing their services to Philadelphia, the Indego Share Program is hosting a few celebration events that are open to the public.
The first, taking place on Wednesday, April 30, is a fun, slow-paced group bicycle ride through East Fairmount Park. Wednesday Night Rides, a bi-weekly social bike ride in Philadelphia, will host the event, which begins at 7 p.m., traveling in a loop exploring East Fairmount Park, beginning at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Registered participants can ride an Indego bike at no cost.
The fun continues into next month as National Bike Month is set to begin. In celebration, Indego is offering early access to its Bike Month Promo pass, which includes unlimited one-hour rides on Indego classic bikes. Beginning today through May 31, riders can purchase a one-month pass for just $5 by using the code INDEPRO25.
