Philadelphia offers free flu shots, Covid vaccines at neighborhood health centers

Posted

Philadelphia residents can get free flu shots and Covid-19 vaccines at neighborhood health centers, with no appointment necessary, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health announced Monday.

The seasonal vaccine clinics are open to all Philadelphia residents ages 6 months and older. Residents must provide proof of Philadelphia residency, such as a utility bill in their name, but no other identification is required.

The vaccines are available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at three City Health Centers:

  • Health Center 2: 1700 S. Broad St., Unit 201

  • Health Center 6: 301 W. Girard Ave.

  • Health Center 10: 2230 Cottman Ave.

“We know that seasonal vaccines, like the flu shot and Covid-19 vaccine, can and do save lives every year,” Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Palak Raval-Nelson said in a statement. She encouraged residents to take advantage of the free clinics to help protect themselves and their families from serious illness.

The annual flu vaccine helps protect against seasonal influenza, which can cause severe illness and death, particularly among young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. The vaccine is updated to target flu strains expected to circulate during the season.

The Covid-19 vaccine also helps reduce the risk of severe illness. Protection is particularly important for adults ages 65 and older, according to the health department.

Both vaccines are available at no cost to eligible Philadelphia residents. No advance registration or appointment is required.
