It’s not too late to apologize

After Lou Williams missed a pair of free throws that cost the Sixers a win in Detroit 10 days ago, he addressed the team with a simple message.

“I just said, ‘I apologize. I lost this one, but I’m going to help us win more than I help lose,’” Williams recalled.

The point guard followed through on that confident promise yesterday afternoon, delivering a game-tying corner trey at the end of regulation and leading the Sixers to a 96-92 overtime win over the Bobcats. Williams scored all of his 23 points after halftime, reaching double figures for the sixth straight game. The Sixers are 4-2 over that span.

“I think he’s three to one right now,” Elton Brand joked about how many wins Williams has accounted for.

Although Williams has been relegated to a bench role exclusively this year, he still provides the Sixers with a unique skill. Coach Doug Collins often draws up plays for Williams in the fourth quarter, just like he did against Charlotte.

“When Lou Williams plays well, and he’s on the floor at the end of the game, he’s the one guy for us — maybe [Andre Iguodala] — that can create a shot for himself or a teammate.”

Want proof? Williams created the shots in regulation, Iguodala nailed a go-ahead jumper to win it in OT.
