Jarret Husid: UDel farming major busted for marijuana

A University of Delaware agriculture student has been arrested after police found 12 pounds of pot and a marijuana grow operation in his home near the college campus.

Jarret Husid, 20, a Hopewell, N.J., native studying Agriculture and Natural Resources, was charged with trafficking, possession, and related offenses after officers executed a search warrant of his home on the 200 block of Courtney Street in Newark, Del., on Friday.

The city’s Special Investigations Unit began an investigation in mid-March after receiving information about illegal activity at the residence, according to Lt. Mark Farrall.

Authorities allegedly found a variety of high-grade marijuana strains packaged for sale, as well as numerous plants, potting soil, grow lights, and other paraphernalia in the basement.

They also allegedly discovered that Husid was receiving marijuana deliveries from other sources, including through the mail.

“This was a small marijuana grow operation,” said Farrall.

But, he added, the seizure means that an estimated $50,000 worth of marijuana will no longer make its way into the city or college communities.

Although Husid was not home at the time of the search, he turned himself in and was arrested on Monday. He was released after posting $32,000 cash bail.
