Jason Kelce undergoing minor elbow surgery

The Eagles revealed today that future Hall of Fame Center, Jason Kelce, would be undergoing surgery after trying to work through some elbow discomfort.

Jason Kelce will have elbow surgery

Although this sounds scary, this should only be a ‘routine cleanout’. A quick google search suggests a recovery time of 6 to 8 weeks, but that’s for your average Joe and not a high-performance athlete. I’m no Doctor, but if we are being conservative, it would be fair to assume that Kelce could miss the opening few games of the season. The last thing the team would want to do is rush him back and potentially make things worse.

Believe it or not, Kelce hasn’t missed a single game since the 2014 season. Considering how beat up the offensive line usually ends up, that in itself is staggering. There is a chance that streak ends now, but if it means we get a fully healthy Jason Kelce for one more season, then that’s absolutely worth it.

The good news is that the team does now have a devout backup center in rookie Cam Jurgens, who was hand-picked by Kelce to be the heir to his throne.

Jurgens is quick on his feet with the needed athleticism to succeed in this offense. With how the Eagles have used Kelce over the years, the decision to select him with the 51st pick in this year’s NFL Draft made a ton of sense.

Here’s to hoping that the surgery is successful and Jason Kelce is back outpacing running backs again soon.
