Things could be a lot worse for the Eagles’ offensive line.

They could be playing without Jason Peters.

But the left tackle will not only be tasked with protecting Nick Foles’ blind side, as he does every game, in Week 2 against the Colts.

He will also be expected to lead a now inexperienced offensive line.

“He’s awesome,” Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said to the media in his Thursday morning press conference. “I think that’s one of the things you realize. I know you guys observed in training camp how much time he spends not only with our young offensive linemen, but the time he spends with our young defensive linemen and rush guys, kind of giving him his knowledge of what moves hurt him, what is better for him. I think he’s that type of guy. I think sometimes it goes unnoticed.”

Peters will line up alongside Andrew Gardner and Dennis Kelly — each filling in for an injured or suspended player — s well as veterans Jason Kelce and Todd Herrimans. Coach Kelly knows all three will lead by example.

“He’s very quiet,” Kelly said of Peters. He’s not a boisterous-type player, but his ability to get across his point to our younger guys has been huge for us.”
