Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley are both 38-years-old, and both are trying to prove they have some baseball left to play.
Each was a key infield piece for the Phillies during their 2008 World Series run and subsequent NL East domination, and each was sent out west when the Phillies — better late than never — decided to begin rebuilding in 2014.
Rollins will play for his third organization since leaving Philadelphia as he inked a minor-league deal with the Giants, a stone’s throw from his home town of Alameda. If he makes the MLB roster in San Francisco, he will earn $1 million.
Utley on the otherhand still remains unsigned and the Dodgers have indicated they are strongly considering welcoming him back after he served as a part-time second baseman last season. The Los Angeles Angels are another team that has been rumored to be interested in the veteran. Like Rollins in Northern California, Utley is close to home where he grew up near San Diego.
