Kareem Alleyne: Man charged in killing of off-duty police officer freed on bail

The man charged yesterday with homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter for allegedly striking off-duty Philadelphia police Officer Marc Brady head-on with his car in East Mount Airy Sunday night has been freed on bail, according to court documents.

Kareem Alleyne, 35, of the 900 block of Price Street, was arraigned shortly before 10 p.m. last night and was let go sometime today after posting bail through a bail bond service, according to court documents. The records do not indicate the dollar amount of the bail posted.

Investigators said yesterday that Alleyne and Brady met in a chance encounter at Musgrave Street and East Meehan Avenue as Alleyne was driving away from his girlfriend’s house and Brady was riding on his bicycle to meet the same woman, who he used to date and has several children with.

Police said there was “bad blood” between the two men and that when Alleyne saw Brady, he sped up and slammed his car into the officer. Brady died at Albert Einstein Medical Center around midnight yesterday. Alleyne was taken into custody on the scene.
