Kelly wants Eagles to go faster

Chip Kelly wants to go faster.

As the football world was still dissecting and debating Kelly’s NFL debut, the Eagles coach admitted that his offense was a tad too slow. Kelly, who ran a blistering 53 plays in the first half Monday night, wants his players to kick it up another notch.

“I felt like it was slow, to be honest with you. I’m not joking,” Kelly said Tuesday. “We’ve got to do a better job. We left the ball on the ground too much. We didn’t get the ball to the officials. We could have sped things up from a process between plays. That’s something we need to continue to work on.”

Kelly’s warp-speed offense was the talk of the sports world. It netted 443 total yards in a 33-27 victory, while snapping the ball in under 20 seconds on most plays. Kelly said the key moving forward is to keep subbing guys in and out as a way to keep them fresh. LeSean McCoy carried 31 times and the ESPN cameras caught him on the sideline hunched over trying to catch his breath.

“We’ve got to do a better job of rotating some of those guys,” Kelly said. “We’ve talked about it as a staff. We need to see Bryce [Brown] a little bit more, we need to get Chris [Polk] in the game. We need to rotate our receivers a little bit more. When you’re going to play that many snaps, you’ve got to make sure you don’t run your own team into the ground.”
