After a disastrous start this season, the Phillies stuck with Kyle Kendrick.
Good thing, too.
The young right-hander has steadily improved with each start, especially last night against the Cardinals. Kendrick was masterful with seven scoreless innings as the Phillies won their second straight with a 4-0 victory.
Kendrick mixed up his pitches and kept the hot-hitting Cardinals off balance all night.
Placido Polanco ripped a two-run home run to left field in the fourth and Shane Victorino added a solo homer to right in the sixth for the Phillies (16-11). Entering last night, Cardinals starter Brad Penny hadn’t allowed a homer.
The teams will close out their four-game series today with Phillies ace Roy Halladay (5-1) opposing St. Louis’ Kyle Lohse (0-1).
