Kennett Square is holding its 26th annual mushroom festival next weekend.
What is truly mind-blowing is that the Chester County town with a population of a little over 6,000 grows over 65% of the mushrooms consumed in the United States, harvesting over a million pounds a year. In fact, Kennett Square produces more mushrooms than any other region across the globe.
Is it just me, or is everyone else unaware that we are living a mere 30 miles away from the Mushroom Capital of the World?
The festival will run from Friday, September 9 to Sunday, September 11 at 14 W. State Street. Guests so far include celebrity chefs Jose Garces, Kevin Sbraga and Jennifer Behm.
For more about the weekend’s events, which include a community parade, classic car show, 5k Mushroom Run, art auction, live music and cooking demonstrations, visit www.mushroomfestival.org.
