Kerry Collins walking away from NFL

Eagles fans know Kerry Collins all too well. Now, they no longer have to worry about him.

After 16 seasons, the 38-year-old quarterback announced his retirement from the NFL Thursday. Collins was the fifth pick in the 1995 draft out of Penn State. He played for the Panthers, Saints, Giants, Raiders and Titans.

“The past several months have brought on much introspection, and I have decided that while my desire to compete on Sundays is still and always will be there, my willingness to commit to the preparation necessary to play another season has waned to a level that I feel is no longer adequate to meet the demands of the position,” Collins said in a statement.

Collins played in 10 games last season for Carolina, including a 37-19 win over the Eagles, where he threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns. In 12 career games against the Eagles, Collins threw for 2,842 yards with 12 TDs.

206

Career TD passes for Collins in 16 NFL seasons, which ranks 29th all-time. Only 10 other players have thrown for more yards than his 40,441.
