Summer can be a little ruff, but local pups can get some much deserved TLC.

During the month of August—which is also National Dog Month — Kimpton Hotels is offering special overnight stays, “Best Friends Getaways” at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia (the “Bark Package”) and Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia (“Pampered Paws Retreat”).

While Old City’s Monaco package is cute with its canine-focused guided tour of Historic Philly and exclusive dog bandanas with your dog drawn onto its cloth by a local artist, there is also the cosmopolitan chill of the downtown/Rittenhouse area Palomar experience. That includes being “Paw” pampered with everything from two plush beds to sleep on — a Kimpton-provided comfy Serta dog bed, as well as the hotel’s restful human mattresses — to a doggie bathrobe if your pup chooses to watch television and lounge around the dog-centric accommodations. When venturing out, Palomar will provide a curated list of pet-friendly places, activities and dining in the immediate Rittenhouse area such as The LOVE and The Dandelion.

“In celebration of National Dog Month, our newly-revamped Pampered Paws Retreat package not only celebrates beloved furry friends, but encourages travelers to bring them along for an overnight stay,” said Ryan Sullivan, director of sales and marketing at Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia. “While you don’t need to purchase a package to take advantage of Kimpton’s pet perks and standard pet policy of absolutely no fees – if they fit through the door, they’re welcome – we’re always looking for unique ways to pamper our four-legged guests.”

This reporter recently treated his pup, Tia, an orange pharaoh hound, to the experience: Before our stay, the Palomar’s canine concierge asked us about any allergies that Tia may have had so to create her custom curated Barkcuterie board of dried banana bites, apple slices, dehydrated sweet potato, green beans and duck-tato jerky made with cage-free duck and sweet potato flavor – all with a generous dollop of peanut butter for dipping purposes.

As for National Dog Day itself, Aug. 24, Old City’s Hotel Monaco is planning its own oversized extravaganza that no pooch or canine parent will want to miss.

“After a few years hiatus, the Dog Days of Summer sidewalk event at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia is back in 2023 to celebrate National Dog Month,” said Bob Dmuchowski, director of sales and marketing at Monaco Philly location. “Pups are encouraged to cool off with a donation-based outdoor shampoo while guests and locals can connect with additional community vendors and artisans – Caricatures by Courtney, Doggie Style Pets, and more. All proceeds from the event will support the local no-kill shelter, Saved Me, who will also have several adoptable dogs available to meet. Hopefully we can find a few new homes.”
